How We Work

Each film project is unique and has its own specific needs. We believe we can handle most of the circumstances, from finding a single piece of equipment to putting together entire crews and productions. In short, we'll try our best to meet your production needs.

If you are an established filmmaker, consider us your turn-key, low-cost production company. We can take your project from development to post. We'll even help you with distribution if you need us to.

If you are an aspiring filmmaker, however, the ideal first step is to have your film project ready to go. By this, we mean you'll have a shooting script and some production funds.

We would then assign you a "Project Manager." The "Project Manager" will be a film industry professional who will serve as your mentor, advisor, guide, confidant and friend. We currently have "Project Managers" whose day jobs are Line Producers, Production Managers, Production Coordinators, First A.D.s and Technical Keys.

The idea behind the "Project Manager" approach is to reduce costs and increase efficiency by reducing mistakes.

Again, we understand your film may have unique, specific needs. Thus -

If you're trying to raise funding, we can help you develop your Business Plan to help you raise production funds.

If you're looking for creative input on your script, we can have some of our alumni writer-filmmakers offer you creative suggestions.

If you need a script budget, we get this done for you. Note that feature-length scripts take time to budget and break down, so you may be asked for a nominal donation. (But never more than $100 for a complete feature film budget.) If you need a schedule and breakdown, we can also get this done for you. Note that this is even more time-consuming than a budget, so you may be asked to donate up to $200 to the First A.D. or UPM that performs the task.

If you're looking for pieces of equipment, we get discounted rates from our vendor-sponsors.

If you're only looking to fill a few crew positions, we check our database listings and see who is in-between gigs and available to work for you.

Whatever you're making - a short film to get representation, a trailer for possible funding, or even a low-budget feature film for possible distribution, the bottom line is that there is a good chance we can help. So don't hesitate to ask.

There is no "catch." There are no "strings." There are no hidden costs or surprises.

We do, however, ask for 2 things when we help get your film in the can. That you give a "Special Thanks to MakeYourFilm.org" screen credit, and that you commit to helping another filmmaker in the future. One good turn deserves another, right?

Oh, and if you become a successful filmmaker, remember the vendors and crew who supported you. Feel free to use their services again.
